Security
So lumping a bunch of words together:
peace, justice, compassion, security, honesty, hope, liberty and democracy.
Somehow, it should seem clear that all of these things are connected. In
fact there is not a lot of difference between these words. They are
often very easy to say, but often very difficult to understand, what
they are all about.
Security, on some hand, has certainly (somewhat?) different implications.
We often say that, we must invest in our security. I would say simply
that investing in that single attribute or potentiality is somewhat short
sighted, as these attributes/potentialities (how you want to think of them)
are intimately connected.
We often say that we " lack " security because we feel threatened, or
we have " evidence " in fact that we are threatened. What about
the lack of democracy or the lack of compassion or the lack of justice.
We make " sizable " investments to prevent feeling that particular threat,
the threat to security.
So this big question is, when have we NOT felt threatened?
And when have we NOT felt the lack of democracy?
And when have we NOT felt the lack of honesty?
And when have we NOT felt the lack of justice?
And when have we NOT felt the lack of compassion?
And when have we NOT felt the lack of liberty?
And when have we NOT felt the lack of hope?
????
And why is it not as "valuable" to invest in these kinds of thing?
I guess to some extent I am writing in the memory of an example
of someone who could ask questions of this type:
Bishop Desmond Tutu
obviously somebody noticed ..
So I remain hopefully optimistic that we can consider, in what ways
we can find to fit this puzzle together in a somewhat more effective
way.
Finally, does the " suffering " of someone else in some way decrease or in
a manor change the perceptions of threat ?
