differences

 

I have to begin with Happy Tuesday, a day most well known, because it is between

Monday and Wednesday, which is, I guess,  kind of important.  Apparently somebody

was concerned about Monday and Wednesday getting too close.  But of course

in English, we know:


 :Middle English Tewesday, meaning "Tīw's Day", the day of Tiw or Týr, 

the god of single combat, and law and justice in Norse mythology

But in other Latin based languages it is Martes, after Mars,

But focusing in on differences, I have to mention Isaac Newton, who

spent a good deal of his youth, concerned with differences, which was

 motivated considerably by his fascination with 

the Moon, that is Earth's Moon, and thank goodness we have one.

It certainly kept young Isaac busy, which allows me to mention

how much our global or national culture owns to the energy

and vitality of youth.  Just consider, Elvis Pressley and where

we would be now, with out his - some might say - gigantic 

contributions to us and for us.  But some might even consider

young Isaac, a bit different. My failure to mention Frank Sinatra

in this regard is some unfortunate oversight.


But, of course, we should also mention somewhat in the

context of differences, Israel, ( hard to spell ), and it's

position in history and through history.  One pretty important

event to mention would be, the 200 year war between

the Jewish peoples and the state of Rome around 2000 years

ago.  The issue of why and how this all took place, I am

confident, has been the preoccupation of a considerable

amount of scholarly effort.  But, it is curious, that apparently

the Jewish people and Ancient Greece had considerable

positive interactions.



Beyond that, we also have the Crusades, beginning

about 1000 a.d. and apparently even the Crimean War

the original one,  between 1853 and 1856,  also

had something to do with the area of then Palestine.


Today, of course we have issues connected with differences

between Israelis and Palestinians, two peoples who could

not be more closely connected, in so many ways, at least,

in my opinion.  


Well, all this points to one pretty obvious issue, for

members of the human race, that for some reason

difference is something we have a good deal of difficulty

with, but, yes, as irony does suggest, it is some biological

differences, which allows us to propagate as a species.


So, about now, we should get to the point here.  Very clearly

this is an issue of some significance, and to pretend that

we don't have this problem, because we imagine it will

go away by itself, is , I think, on the very wishful side.

On the other hand, if we apply some effort to the " problem ",

as did young Isaac with his concerns about the Moon,

maybe, we might get somewhere.

  It seems to me that one  activity which many people enjoy as well as participate in or engage with is puzzle solving.  Part of the enjoyment  in puzzle solving is the actual conclusion where all the pieces are in place. Belief, faith, and meaning

  Well, these three concepts are obviously closely connected, but yet you can possibly make distinctions between them.  The first two are of course clearly related and you may even think of faith as a container for some beliefs.  The exact nature of what that container might be or how you might comprehend it, of course, is, kind of, what faith is all about. But talking about belief by itself, it seems pretty clear to me that what you actually do, at any given time is somehow connected to what you might believe, which is kind of handy and convenient, because you can, kind of, figure out , more or less , what you do believe by what you in fact do, and then, may have some clearer understandings about what you belief , which can also help you navigate some of the actions or activities you engage with. Without going to much more into the subject of  faith, then, it is clear that meaning has a lot to do with belief, on account of how we perceive things , will indeed effect...

Okay, on space and time

  Well, it's a lot easier to think about if you just call it a manifold, which is not exactly super simple, but makes it a little easier to think about in terms of how " real " it is. So, this is motivated by article which I did not read, about how real is space and time. In mathematics, of course, this stuff is really real, because without it you can get absolutely nowhere.  But , let us not get too hung up with the math. Now, on a day to day basis of course we have " time " or we don't have any " time ". So, I would have to imagine for your average person, it's pretty darnn real, as of course is space, because, we are always involved with translations, meaning going from one place to another, and also, we put other stuff in spaces.  Now whether you want to believe that the stuff, you are using to jam into the space, is also space, I figure, that's all up to you and what makes you most comfortable.
