Just some numbers

So, in 1960, the population of the U.S. was about 200,000,000 and the globe

was about 4,000,000,000. Today the population of the globe is moving toward

8,000,000,000 and the population of the U.S. is around 300,000,000.

So, I did not check that, but approximately.

Regardless of how you look at that, the world of 1960 is really not the

same as the world we are living in today.  Nevertheless, many of

the principals still do apply today as they applied then, and many

of these same principals have been effective in various ways over

even a longer period of time.

One of those principals that applied in 1960, as far as the U.S.A. would

be concerned is that the people make the government but that the

government is made for the benefit of the people.   That of course

is quite an interesting if somewhat curious principal.  I am not sure

if those folks that came up with that idea, would have been quite

as enthusiastic if they could have had a clear picture of what

the world would look like in a couple of hundred years.

Nevertheless, it certainly remains, a kind of vibrant, and powerful

principal in many ways, even if it may be a bit curious.

There are other principals I believe which apply as solidly today

as they applied in 1960.  One would certainly have to be, the

benefit, the dignity, the value of work.  By that, I really mean

" good work ", which would means work that is of value to others

and society at large.

So the world is different but there are some strong foundations

which help us along our path.  By help, I mean, " really " help.

I guess, part of this has to do with not trying to " decorate " the cake

before you even have a cake.  What I mean by that is, right

now we are really trying to bake the kind of cake, meaning

the kind of government we need for today, and also for going

forward into the future.  However, that works out, I think it

will be very difficult to make it all work without some of

those principals, from which this country came to be.
