Winning or losing

Sometimes, I think, it is very hard to know when you are winning or losing,

and I guess, if I has one thing to say about the Blues, and it might be hard

to say " one thing ", it is about the difficulty in distinguishing between these

two situations, the kind of ambiguity that can be put in front of us, the

kind of uncertainty that results from certain kinds of events.  It's a lot like

just plain sadness of course, but it can feel like a little more than that,

in part, I think, produced by that sense of ambiguity.

But you know, it does seem to be a persistent theme in most of our lives.

Certainly there can be many - what you might call - wins, successes, or

events of that type, but there are usually included some genuine losses,

maybe even connected to frightening events.

And I guess, sometimes those wins and losses are interconnected and

intertwined in some ways.  Like how can you feel genuinely happy,

when you have never been sad.  How can you achieve genuine success,

unless you have been touched by genuine failure ...

So, there is no point at all to what I have written.  It's just a kind

of observation, which touches into that emotional core, we

experience , somehow maybe, connected to that art form -

we call the Blues.

Just end with a line from James Taylor I woke up with today:

Just yesterday mornin', they let me know you were goneSuzanne, the plans they made put an end to you
