As briefly as possible, a bit on suffering
Obviously not the best time to talk about suffering after a celebration of gratitude ,
but sometimes you gotta' do what you gotta' do, you know? On the other hand,
not so much better a time, preceding the celebration of generosity.
But you might notice that suffering is somewhat diminished, while experiencing or
expressing gratitude. Likewise, we might add it is also somewhat less when we
experience or express generosity.
I think, one thing that is pretty obvious is that if suffering were substituted for money,
the world would be a whole lot richer, than it is today. Another thing that may not
be so obvious , but seems to be at least somewhat true, is that suffering is mostly
an internal experience, although there may very well be external factors. Now if
that is indeed true, then suffering is to some extent under or individual control.
That is we may be able to reduce the amount or degree of suffering we do in
fact experience. Another thing that should be fairly evident is that we can
also help to reduce the amount of suffering, somebody else is experiencing,
and that is generally a " good " experience, all around.
I do question whether or not it is entirely possible to eliminate suffering all
together, but I pretty firmly believe we are mostly all capable of reducing
it in ourselves and in others, Honestly, I feel that is worthwhile effort.
One of the great benefits of this effort is the opportunity to experience
happiness, and even joy, which is highly beneficial to us all.
