Okay, speech, free, or right
Going sometime back, the Buddha, discussed the issue of speech, in relation to
suffering:

Now, we of course talk about free speech, which obviously is a very interesting
topic, but speech must exist in the same context as action, because speech can
be harmful, and therefore the Buddha introduced, about 2500 years ago, the
concept of right speech, meaning in certain ways, speech that is not harmful.
So the idea in free speech is to have meaningful dialogues and conversations that
benefit everybody. This may be hard or it maybe easy.
Not so long ago, our media was mainly highly local, which means that the people
who were creating the media, were in close proximity to the people consuming
the media. This, of course, created a somewhat different environment for communication.
However, now we have to reconsider what is " local ", because, media over the
years has become more highly diffuse, meaning that data sources and sinks are
all over the place, and our data or information is less like the local model,
we did have not to long ago, which was also the same model that existed for
sometime before that.
So in conclusion, we always must way speech in the context of both
free, but also , right.
