Something about the future

Something about the end of the year, makes you want to think about the future, where you want to go , who you want to see, just things like that.  But at the same time there is always some pre-occupation with the past as well, and so you are kind of in a rush to maybe organize old stuff and so you kind of have a bit of a tug of war between these to different directions.

Now, it may or may not be safe to assume that any time you are progressing from the past to the future, it would be pretty much the same, as in fact we are doing that process continuously or at least it appears to us as some kind of continuity.

Now it seems to me when considering a collective future, especially for the times in which we live, we have a hard time avoiding a somewhat simple , yet extremely difficult issue which is that the world we live in is quite complex, yet generally we try and shy away from complexity.  Complexity is a bit hard to embrace, although certainly in the past Islamic artists and other  poets have done there best to to bring it home in a personal way, yet it remains quite a difficult task for most of us.

So this, it seems to me, is the crux of the matter.  How well, can we deal with the complexity that we need to deal with, that is the past, the present, and the future?
