Ideas about roots and causes

So we have lot's of problems, and some problems are clearly more serious than others.

However, in general if you examine " problems ", you might find that many or at least

a good number of these are , on a sort of root level, connected back to fear.

It is good to examine simpler problems to see how this works.  There are probably better

examples , but you can see that in terms of " politics " in the U.S., many difficulties we

have in implementing  effective policies, programs, or systems , sort of revolves around

issues connected to a two party system which is effectively based on " fear ".  At it's core

we are afraid of a single party -- sort of -- going off the rails, so we have two parties both

of which now constantly asserting that the other party is --- off the rails ---.  Of course

the rails are kind of imaginary concepts, because if we had " real " rails, then the

U.S. government would be a train.  So the system was based on this notion of we

can't trust each other, and so we will assert opposing views about what is and what

is not " really " happening.  I think at some point there was a belief that, because

we are all just " regular " human beings, we could just simply have long and extended

conversations, and in this way we might meet at some " reasonable " middle ground.

As you can see there are a lot of assumptions about people and how reasonable they

are in connection with practical issues.  On the other hand I am sure that there are

many enthusiasts who believe that this system is " just fine ".  So maybe not the best

example, so maybe something simpler might be better.  If you examine any kind of

mechanical device, it is usually built or designed to eliminate some fears we might

have.  The devices purpose might, in fact, be to eliminate some kind of fear.  An example

would be the railings on a stair case, or for example  light  bulbs, often also connected

to staircases and both designed to reduce the chances of falling.  These devices of

course are pretty effective, but both require maintenance and .so we can see, over

time, they are the cause of what you might call -- a problem.  For example, when

the light bulb goes out, especially when it goes out unexpectedly, then  the result

might be a serious problem, depending on the situation at hand.  When you have

something in place to protect you and that system fails, the result can often

be a problem.  Automobiles for example are usually " chock " full of problems

of all types, and work only because there are lots of patient and sort of dedicated

people to deal with the vast number of problems that arise from continuous use.

So, the last is a really a good example of how " solutions ", are implemented and

how important it is for us to deal with the various fears that we must be continually

facing.
