Complex states, and such

I am not certain, but it does seem like we have been dealing with " complex " states, ever since the lightbulb,  telephone and radio.  The lightbulb ,of course, made it a bit more difficult for us to distinguish nighttime from daytime, then the telephone made it possible for us to talk to people a long distance away, which seems somewhat difficult on its face, and likewise with the radio, which allowed us to sort of eavesdrop on events, again, from long distances away.  Some might think of these states as imaginary or maybe virtual states.   Now, of course there is another type of state, like, for example, the state of Wisconsin, or Chiapas, etc., and of course with complex states springing up all around us, we have to think of states of that type as probably getting a bit more complex.  Just ask somebody who may be employed by one of these states about how long it might take them to figure out , what exactly is going on, and you might find some folk...

Some thoughts on space-time and existence

So, it may be possible to ask to question, does existence exist outside of space-time?  It is also equally valid to ask then, does existence exist inside space-time?  Kind of a Schrodinger cat type query. Obviously Dr. Schrodinger is somehow strangely connected with cats, but I guess that kind of thing goes on, in the " fast lane". :. So the questions then revolves around, what is existence?  This turns out to be a somewhat puzzling question, in particular if you choose some kind of rigid thoughts around existence and non-existence.  But it still remains quite important on many different levels. I tend to think that although you can develop various frameworks which might help with the understanding or meanings hidden in the concept, ultimately , I believe it is a question which requires, in some way, continuous effort, which mostly has to be made at an individual level, although friends and family and good relations can substantially help us to unravel it, a b...

Briefly on consciousness

That I am introducing this notion of consciousness, so late in this game, indicates , for me that this rather convoluted, meandering, and perhaps overly long blog is coming to an end, which means that it is headed for a conclusion, which is probably something like " conflict and consciousness ". So, although consciousness can be a rather difficult topic, it is quite fortunate that it has been the subject of some concern for at least 2500 years, through most, or perhaps all, of the various schools, etc, of Buddhist teaching.   This can be traced back to the koan, Mu, which of course has had a very curious effect on our understanding of what we might think of as conscious. Today of course, we are very concerned with the nature of  consciousness as it relates to " inanimate " type of things.  In other words what we are trying to do is determine if some " inanimate " thing behaves or can be confused with a " living " thing, which of course brings u...

The world mostly

So, to start out with a question, - what is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of the world?  Is it big? Is it small?  Is it too big or too small?  Is it flat or round or hilly or scary or fun or what are those things which comes to your mind when you think of your world, or their world, or maybe even an imaginary world? One way you can think about it , when you finally decide what world you are in fact thinking about, is that it is elongated.  Mostly elongated in time.  If you can imagine that it would have to be quite diffuse at the ends, meaning distant past or future, and then becoming more focused at the meeting of those confluences.  It is also interesting to think about how that quite singular point, meaning in some ways the present, almost seems to have a controlling effect on both of those, perhaps, elongated concepts of the world and time. Of course you can think of it as elongated or perhaps you can think of it as a lig...

More on, aliens, Nazis , and lies

So lets start out with aliens, on account of we are having " issues " about aliens on a lot of different levels. Now, I just watched a squirrel running on the top of a fence.  Was the squirrel an alien?  Most people would say -- no --, the squirrel is a " native ".  However, I have no idea how a squirrel can run on top of a fence and it is very hard for me to even imagine how it can.  So, in the sense that I don't get it, I do not understand the underlying mechanisms involved, then that squirrel might definitely be an alien. And so my assertion is we constantly deal with aliens in our environment and kind of obviously the most alien person you will ever meet would have to be yourself on account of the quirkiness of our thinking process that makes our individual self, the thing that is most difficult to know. So knowing things and knowing about things is very important and coming back to this issue of lies and Nazis, well, according to  a learned young man...

Newton and stuff

So to begin with we have fig newtons, and just plane newtons, and then of course we have Newtons Method: https://web.ma.utexas.edu/users/m408n/CurrentWeb/LM4-8-2.php#:~:text=Newton's%20method%20is%20a%20technique,guess%20x1. Pretty good to have a method.  Anyway, Isaac Newton was of course an historic figure, and a very curious historic figure at that, and I am constantly bedazzled by his insights about celestial motion and connecting that  back to things that are observable on earth.  But you also have to admit that it's a little hard to picture Lagrange or Laplace or Leibnitz or several other prominent historical science and math type guys without that influence, maybe including Gauss, and Reimann.   From an article about Oasis, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants: : Its appearance on the £2 coin is down to the fact that the great scientis t Sir Isaac Newton  used the phrase in a letter to his friend and colleague   Robert Hooke , back in Febru...

Belief, faith, and meaning

Well, these three concepts are obviously closely connected, but yet you can possibly make distinctions between them.  The first two are of course clearly related and you may even think of faith as a container for some beliefs.  The exact nature of what that container might be or how you might comprehend it, of course, is, kind of, what faith is all about. But talking about belief by itself, it seems pretty clear to me that what you actually do, at any given time is somehow connected to what you might believe, which is kind of handy and convenient, because you can, kind of, figure out , more or less , what you do believe by what you in fact do, and then, may have some clearer understandings about what you belief , which can also help you navigate some of the actions or activities you engage with. Without going to much more into the subject of  faith, then, it is clear that meaning has a lot to do with belief, on account of how we perceive things , will indeed effect...

Aliens, intelligence, and accounting

So I guess we have to start out with : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burroughs_Corporation This may seem like a Random Angle on the whole, alien idea, on account of it does represent a big hunk of what I might describe as American Culture, in a lot of different ways, but we where in many ways able to do more --- calculations --- of various types, than had previously been possible, and there is a " trend " which does seem to be continuing.  Apparently, the more we " calculate ", the more we want to calculate. The particular alien intelligence, or sometimes a.i., or sometimes also referred to as artificial intelligence, is a concrete example of how we view things in general which we do not know a lot about, that might include other people, or other members of the vertebrates or various life forms such as trees, and things which also includes insects and birds. For whatever it's worth, no conclusion, maybe just rambling on, as people will do. But in the end, if we...
