Narratives

So, for sometime I have been thinking about multi-dimensional politics, and also the relationships between game theory and politics.  All this reminds me of free groups and the word problem in group theory. Well, one connection to this is the narrative.  It seems that a " narrative " is one of the guiding principals in the politics as it appears to me, in  the U.S.  And the politics seems to revolve to some degree on the coherency of the narrative.   So what is a narrative?  I suppose that you can think of this in many ways, but clearly it is a sequence of some type.  There are various elements to it, but finally when you connect or weave these elements together you end up with a narrative.  What are the elements?  They can be dialogues or conversations.  They could also be actual events or maybe what you might call " facts ", documents, or such like that. Now, when you think about it , these narratives need some kind of foun...

An opinion

I think it is fair to say, that " politics " as generally thought of , particularly as thought of in this U.S. is  about a 1 dimensional structure, left and right.   It seems to me this creates some confusion on account that I don't really think this is an effective way of thinking about issues of social or collective concern, since the reality of the situation really requires IMHO, more than 1 dimensions.  Most likely two dimensional or even three dimensional thinking might be helpful.

passing of Thich Nhat Hanh’

Very saddened to learn of this event, passing of " iconic " figure  in various ways. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/1/29/thousands-mourn-vietnamese-zen-master-and-peace-activist-thich-nhat-hanh

So and, subject and object

It seems to me that one of the most difficult problems both on a personal and collective basis has been and continues to be the issue of the distinction between subject and object.  Clearly it is a terrific problem in the area of science, because it is the most fundamental issue as to what science is when we try to describe science , but also reflects back on a  very personal way to all of us in our immediate lives.  It figures into how we  relate to each other as well as how we interact in collective environments  such as work environments, families, education and various other situations that we personally find ourselves in every day. IMHO, it has not been make particularly easier by the extraordinary advances in technology and the availability of technology  in the past several decades, but I also think that the fundamental problem has not changed that much in the last several thousand years.  Also I think how we grapple with it reflects on a...

Living in the matrix

Sometimes this is phrased as a question but regardless of that if we are concerned with " matrices " or " matrixes " then we have to go back to this guy: James Joseph Sylvester Of course the thing is really associated with The Matrix particularly when phrased as a question. Just looking at - living in the matrix -, there are two words - living - and - matrix - , that to me are very much like peanut butter and jelly,  certainly attractive to the " mind ". But people do eat - simply - peanut butter alone or jelly alone, or on bread. The other issue is really, as a question, it often is a question about living in a simulation, and we often think of this as a " computer " simulation.  However, the idea would have had very little significance to anybody really before 1950. Mr. Sylvester lived during the 1800's.   This all connects back to what we think about as reality. You could also say for example: is reality real ? ... It also has some connec...
