A bit of a problem
Many people are aware that our world-experience is becoming more
and more complex. This in part deals with large amounts of global
interconnections, some change in technologies, and other variables
like population.
But of course it might be helpful to consider what complexity is.
Mostly it means there are lots of variables and it also involves
perhaps many assumptions. What happens of course in such
an environment is, if you take some action, there is always a possibility
that it will fail, and in fact it often does.
Now, here is the problem bit, many people recognize that voting
is a very helpful process on many levels, but the way voting is
mostly configured is, you are voting for or against something.
The problem here is that in fact we are really mostly voting for
the same things, but because there are so many points of view,
what are generally hopes for similar outcomes, are configured
as oppositions, which often they are not. This problem is
exaggerated by problems connected with, when this voting
process ends up creating problems or new problems on
account of actions taken as a result of this voting process
which in fact nobody wants. In other words we vote for something
we really don't want. Another problem, is the process as
configured, actually allows for a lot of " manipulation " on
a variety of levels.
So, if you recognize that this is in fact a problem, you are going
to have to ask yourself, or somebody else maybe, what is
the solution? Well, pretty much all I can say is personally
I believe there is a solution. Clearly, it has to do with
how we visualize or model these processes.
I guess when you think about it, it all seems a bit Orwellian.
