Inventory

It seems to me that taking inventory can be difficult.  Perhaps you

have a situation where you need 500 forks and you know you lose

some from time to time and you have to count all those forks occasionally.

Maybe you have a very specific time for that.  Maybe

you do it 2 times per year.  And after you count all the forks, you

have to get so many more.  And then you are done.  You could even

be in a situation for some reason, when you had too many forks.

There are also simpler inventories,  which are like if you have

none, then you have to find more.  I'd say this is a more common

form of inventory and we probably are only vaguely aware that

we are doing it, perhaps.

I think there is something kind of special about it.  It seems

like a pretty common  activity , almost natural in

a way, although it can be unpleasant because, well maybe,

counting 500 forks is not so easy, and maybe it takes time,

that is hard for us to find.

But it does seem like it has some particular value, in particular

it allows us to prevent those times when we need something,

and we have none. Although, it may not be so pleasant for

us to do the inventory, it does provide us with some confidence

that  that we can avoid the unpleasant experience of needing

something and not having it.

Another very interesting experience connected with that,

is finding something we had no idea we even had.  Sometimes

that can be a good thing, although sometimes it creates some

anxiety about where that thing came from.

IMHO, an interesting activity might be, for any one

who actually wanted to, to take an inventory of their

emotions.  How many do we actually have?  How many

to we need? How many do we have, that we never use?

Are there emotions we need, and have none?

Are there emotions we didn't know we had?

And you can always ask yourself: why do I have

this particular emotion, which could be kind of

a time consuming activity by itself and require

a schedule of its own.  It might be more difficult

than you think, and it might be a challenge, but

it sort of seems like it might be beneficial from

time to time.

Well, if you only do it twice a year, it couldn't be

that bad, could it?  Unfortunately, I have no good

advice about how to actually do it, but I would guess

you might want to start small and work your way up.

At the end of the day, I think, taking inventory can

create a good deal of anxiety, but I think that one

of the hardest parts is, trying to decide if the

inventory is actually done.

Finally, I can't say for sure, but I do suspect there

might be some inventory taking going on in this Northern

hemisphere of this continent in the near future, if in fact it is

not happening now.  And I can only hope it works out for the best,

really.
