Okay, some more, on religion
First, generally, it is my personal belief, that to dismiss religion out of hand is what
I can only describe as --- unwise ---. I say that simply because almost every
civilization that has ever existed on earth has always been connected to a religion
of some type. Beyond that, simply the accumulation of information and data
connected to religion is of course, entirely enormous and incredibly detailed.
So there is something, there, which has pre-occupied many, many people, for
many, many generations.
On a personal level a conversation on this subject which always sticks in
my mind occurred between P.A.M. Dirac and Wolfgang Pauli probably
in the late 1920's , possibly at Solvay, during which Dirac argued against
the possibility of the existence of God, presumably some argument in
which geometry played some role, to which Pauli replied, " Dirac has
a religion, it is the religion of Paul Dirac "., ( not necessarily an exact
quote but pretty close). Pauli was a fairly devote catholic as is pretty
well known. Interestingly that, they both " predicated " the existence
of not yet observed properties of the physical world. Their wiki
pages follow:

Now, some people have " issues " with " religion " and some people
have issues with " God ". As far as religion is concerned, there is
often, I mean, throughout most recorded history a pretty strong
connection between religion and war. As to God, well, there
can be innumerable arguments for why any notion of the
existence of God is absurd in some way or another. Most
of those arguments are probably correct or at least close.
Of course, we could just go with John Lennon, and " no religion ",
but sadly for us all, " no religion " is a religion.
Ultimately, how we behave every day of our life is effectively
what we believe. So everybody must have a religion of some kind
because, everybody has behaviors of some type. They may or
may not be able to articulate their particular beliefs, but
clearly most every body does have behaviors.
The problem that I see, at a some what disturbing level,
is how in many ways politics has become a kind of religion
for many people. Of course, this is only my personal
perceptive, but that(confusing religion and politics) is
at a very deep level, wrong. They are clearly two
different things.
Now this gets a little confusing, because, what about
" government " ? Yes, there is a " religious " aspect to
government, because, our government is the collective
agreement about how we behave and of course how we
behave is effectively our religion.
So, this all seems quite jumbled, and how we unjumble
it, is a quite personal matter, and if God does exist,
then it wouldn't hurt a bit to ask Him, for a bit of
help, trying to unjumble it. I am pretty confident
He won't turn you down, after all, what else does
He have to do with His Time?
