Hypocrisy a bit
First, hypocrisy must be a real thing, otherwise we won't have
a word like - hypocrisy -for such a behavior. Number one, it's
pretty hard to spell. I think I discovered a new word, in the
process of writing it out, but that got lost.
Anyway, I would imagine, that one of the most hypocritical
behaviors one could willingly participate with, is writing about
hypocrisy.
But I am pretty sure most people don't care for it (hypocrisy). Also
I would suggest that hypocrisy is much easier to detect
in other people, and I would suggest that, because,
if it was easier to detect in ourselves, there would be
a heck of a lot less of it. But, I doubt it will ever entirely
disappear, because, then we would be stuck with this
crazy word with nothing to use it for.
So, an example is clearly in order. If you know
you should not run in the hallway, and you run
it the hallway, and then you berate someone else
for running in the hallway, that could be seen as
hypocrisy. It depends of course. But just imagine
why you would do it. There most probably is a reason,
but it might be kind of hard to find.
So, in the process of figuring out how to spell the word
I came up with the word pretense. They are perhaps
related in some way, but I seriously doubt people will
begin to use the word pretense in place of hypocrisy,
mainly because hypocrisy sounds way more knowledgeable.
It's almost like just using the word, makes you right or correct
in some way.
But, if that is true, that they are connected in some way,
then, it would make more clear why it is so hard to detect
in oneself, because pretense would suggest a - projected image -,
in other words, we are trying to project something which is
not genuine.
There you go, then, it all has a lot to do with being genuine or
in other words being authentic or finally, just being
who you " honestly " are.
And my point would be? Well, to start out with, generally,
we don't talk about it a lot, unless we are being particularly
private, but you might think about it, I would say more
often, because we use it as a judgement, usually about
somebody else. Rarely do we judge ourselves in that way.
Honestly, I think we should judge ourselves more, not really from the
point of view of finding faults, but more in the process
of discovering who we really are. What I mean by that is,
what is our genuine or authentic nature.
It is interesting to consider that one of the most admired
activities one can pursue is the acting profession, in which
you are constantly projecting an imagine. And the most
admired aspect of acting is the projection of a " genuine "
or " authentic " image, of something, you may not be.
It is also somewhat disturbing that the lines between
acting and politics has been significantly " blurred ",
in our current times.
Now, only, I must figure out why, I am writing
about this on Labor Day, 2022.
