Crime, Jesus, and baloney

So this maybe mostly about baloney, and I don't want to speak despairingly about baloney. ( but secretly I just want to talk about the total number of pencils on planet earth ). So Jesus Christ was tried before a Roman, not sure what exactly, but something to the affect that he was an authority in that country, which you might say had kind of lose affiliations with the Roman Empire at that time, except there were a fairly large number of Roman troops, on that soil, as well as, apparently, in Jerusalem.   To a certain extent the issues seemed to be in regard to how well Jesus Christ was willing to go along with baloney, which if you think about the events that went down, at the time of Julius Caesar,  in the time just previous to the events at the time of Christ, well, you might well imagine that the " baloney " level in the empire was pretty high.  And of course, at this point, not really speaking about Italian sausage, or anything of that sort. To magnify the...

Briefly on Bohr and complementarity.

My understanding is that complementarity was proposed following the EPR publication, It can be stated as :  that  a single quantum can exhibit a particle-like \emph{or} a wave-like behavior, but never both at the same time . That does seem like quite a " bold " assertion, but was widely, almost unanimously  , agreed to by the scientific community of that time, and still widely supported today. Whether a quantum is clearly defined or not, it's somewhat  safe to say that this represents a duality in thinking  about the physical world, which I kind of believe was significantly addressed by David Bohm in  the 1990's and his book : The Undivided Universe. Nevertheless, we see this kind of assertion made about a variety of subjects in our social, economic, and political arenas, with bold assertions about something can be either - of one particular nature or the other.   Of course, if one follows this stuff, it is difficult to avoid the issue of t...

Few words on U.S. government

First, about the U.S. government being the problem.  If it is true that the U.S. government is by the people and for the people, then it's seems pretty obvious to me that the U.S. government is not the problem. That mistakes are not made, and mistakes have been made, well,  probably true. Now, the U.S. government is a very bizarre contraption in which there are three branches, all co-equal.  Just imagine that you are trying to build a machine based on that idea. It surely should have occurred to somebody, that if you have two together, you can always beat up the third.  Nevertheless, the people who where building this figured because of  " checks and balances " the whole contraption would work.  Oddly, it has and it does.  Maybe some folks have a better idea about it, because, for example, do we really know what kind of oil it might need, to perform at it's optimum capacity? At any rate, we can look at these branches, as equally bad, equally goo...

I didn't wake, but woken

I didn't wake, but was awoken, and suddenly, brand new, sunlight, suddenly -- out of the box -- from sunrise, somewhere. And, is it too late, too early, or when, ? Most certainly, it must be now.

A reasonable premise

There does seem to be a topic on which both democrats and republicans agree.  It is mostly a premise that our electoral system may be in need of some improvements.  Now, the disagreements arise on the subject of who, what, why, when, where and how.   However, it does seem to me that this is a perfectly good topic for discussion and one on which reasonable people, in a reasonable society might be able to find reasonable agreements. That this is a topic of some importance seems reasonably clear.  We do of course have the assumption of reasonableness, which certainly might be able to make an ass out of you and me.  Nevertheless, over the years, the American people, speaking more specifically about those in the U.S. have been able to demonstrate a good deal of reasonableness over many decades.  In fact, this ability to be reasonable, is a truly inspiring aspect of our social and cultural life.  On one issue  there may be some clarity, as w...

Somewhat sobering

While it may be true that a fairly large number of current inhabitants of this planet may be nuts, it is truly sobering to consider that an almost equal number may be crazy.   Now, if you add in those crazy nuts and those nutter crazies , well you might begin to have some suspicions that perhaps, with such large numbers involved, that you yourself, or me myself might perhaps be a bit crazy or even maybe just a  little nuts.   Sorting all this out can be extremely difficult and even time consuming, therefore, and in conclusion, we all should be grateful for all the medical professionals we do have.

Okay, was George Washington gay ?

Now, I can only imagine that if I was in Florida right now, then, I would have to send Mr. DeSantos, at least $2500 before I write this, but, I am not there, so I feel pretty comfortable to do that now. I guess, you might say, that asking such a question is " sacrilege " ? Anyway, when I grew up in the 1950's in the U.S., there were exactly 0 homosexuals in the entire U.S. ,which was composed of at least 200 million people.  That is ,  even though , Liberace was frequently on national T.V. , but hey, nobody discussed sexual " preference " at that time, because, I don't think anyone, actually knew there was such a thing as sexual preference.  In fact, very few people were actually aware that such a thing as " sex " existed at all, as babies were all delivered, wrapped up nicely, by storks.  Of course, back in the 1950s there were a lot more storks available for that kind of thing.  Now, to the brass tacks ;  if you got 200 average Americans, from ...

Okay, on space and time

Well, it's a lot easier to think about if you just call it a manifold, which is not exactly super simple, but makes it a little easier to think about in terms of how " real " it is. So, this is motivated by article which I did not read, about how real is space and time. In mathematics, of course, this stuff is really real, because without it you can get absolutely nowhere.  But , let us not get too hung up with the math. Now, on a day to day basis of course we have " time " or we don't have any " time ". So, I would have to imagine for your average person, it's pretty darnn real, as of course is space, because, we are always involved with translations, meaning going from one place to another, and also, we put other stuff in spaces.  Now whether you want to believe that the stuff, you are using to jam into the space, is also space, I figure, that's all up to you and what makes you most comfortable. So, I am not going to get into an extende...

Progress, I guess

So the idea of progress, generally, produces some positive feeling, indeed the words kind of go together in the sense that progress generally indicates the idea of motion in a positive direction.  Some might oppose your notion of progress in different ways. For example, they might feel your direction is not sufficiently " positive ", in other words you might be 30 degrees off, and will therefore not end up in the desired location. Or they might say, you are completely backwards , you are going completely in the wrong direction.  Some might oppose the entire notion of progress, by suggesting, say, progress is an illusion, because we can not achieve anything " greater " than that which we have already achieved. Nevertheless, individually we almost always entertain a notion of progress, which may only mean walking from one room to the next.  Say, for example, the sun shines more brightly in the next room, and therefore, when we get there we will be warmer. Ultimately...
