Global conflict

If you are sort of paying some kind of attention to what's going on it does seem a bit hard to not recognize that a global conflict is currently happening.  I wouldn't call it a war, because you need a number to go after it these days, and besides trenches have  kind of become " obsolete ".   However, in this global conflict there is a particularly important front line.    That front line is simply all the class rooms all over this planet. And the success or failure will determine if we can achieve a  future that is valuable to people generally, or continue with all goofiness of following around in circles, with some vague conceptions of what  has gone on in the past.

Okay, speech, free, or right

Going sometime back, the Buddha, discussed the issue of speech, in relation to suffering:   https://tricycle.org/magazine/noble-eightfold-path/ Now, we of course talk about free speech, which obviously is a very interesting topic, but speech must exist in the same context as action, because speech can be harmful, and therefore the Buddha introduced, about 2500 years ago, the concept of right speech, meaning in certain ways, speech that is not harmful. So the idea in free speech is to have meaningful dialogues and conversations that benefit everybody.  This may be hard or it maybe easy. Not so long ago, our media was mainly highly local, which means that the people who were creating the media, were in close proximity to the people consuming the media.  This, of course, created a somewhat different environment for communication. However, now we have to reconsider what is " local ", because, media over the years has become more highly diffuse, meaning that data source...

Okay, more on politics

I think it can be fairly clearly stated that politics can be best described as obtuse o bfuscation   of the rather simple reality that almost everyone on earth falls into 3 major categories, labor , management, and capital. Now if you keep this in mind, then ideally you might imagine that politics would try to enhance this situation by effectively mediating between the categories so as to make things work better for all three of these groups, on account that they make up pretty much everybody. Obviously, it doesn't always work that way for reasons, that seem highly confusing to me.

As briefly as possible, a bit on suffering

Obviously not the best time to talk about suffering after a celebration of gratitude , but sometimes you gotta' do what you gotta' do, you know?  On the other hand, not so much better a time, preceding the celebration of generosity. But you might notice that suffering is somewhat diminished, while experiencing or expressing gratitude.  Likewise, we might add it is also somewhat less when we experience or express generosity.    I think, one thing that is pretty obvious is that if suffering were substituted for money, the world would be a whole lot richer, than it is today.  Another thing that may not be so obvious , but seems to be at least somewhat true, is that suffering is mostly an internal experience, although there may very well be external factors.  Now if that is indeed true, then suffering is to some extent under or individual control. That is we may be able to reduce the amount or degree of suffering we do in fact experience.   Ano...

A bit on perspective, from a certain point of view

I think most people would say, generally, that perspective can be a great thing, usually, until they meet some perspective that makes them uncomfortable or they disagree with. So the big question might be, what is the difference between perspective and prejudice ?  Well, I would say mainly and mostly that , that, is a particularly difficult question.  Most likely perspective is something you have, and prejudice is something somebody else has.    But , rationally speaking there should be a difference, and that difference should be detectable, maybe even measurable.  But, from a practical point of view, I would say that , that distinction, is subtle and difficult and most generally requires some efforts to unwind.  One way to do that is in concert with others who might have different perspectives or prejudices, and to approach it from a somewhat humble, somewhat curious, somewhat patient , somewhat deliberate, somewhat reflective, and maybe somewhat ca...

And so, prejudice and superstition

In an unusual approach I will just start out with the conclusion here, and see if that make sense later on.  My conclusion is that organizations , movements, conversations, or other activities that are too heavily invested in either superstition or prejudice are not going to get very far, or at least not very far, for very long. I will not try to distinguish between them, because they are so intimately related. The reason for this assertion is that both perspectives really represent a kind of poor aim,  like sights that are just maladjusted on some kind of device.  Therefore, the journey or flight based on this will be slightly off, and the desired end will not be properly reached as expected. Originally, this was going to be be about fascism and Nazism, because of the current events during which republicans in the U.S. began calling democrats fascist and visa versa.  Of course, really, I don't know that much about either fascism or Nazism, but from my perspec...

Just a very little on media

When I think about media, I think about medium, and medium gluons, which sounds funny. Anyway, when we think about media, it tends to be kind of " nebulous ".  Nebulous is of course, something we are learning more about all the time.  It might be easier to think about media as it has often been thought of for a good deal of time.   Mostly, media has been a piece of paper with ink on it.  Sometimes, it was free and sometimes we paid for it, like the paper was delivered to the door, or sometimes, we paid for it on our way to work.  Anyway, it was very popular, for a long time.   Obviously, politics became very wrapped up and wrapped into " media ", because it allowed a whole bunch more ink, to be spread on the paper, and that seemed to make , a lot of people, " happier " about paying for the paper, I guess, because there was more to read on the paper. Then there was radio, and things changed a " good " deal, and that of course brings us to th...

Transitions

Also, I assume there is such a thing as a transitioons, although I'm not sure anyone would know what you are talking about.   So, transitions have been a big deal in quantum physics, especially after Irwin Schrödinger introduced an equation which made it efficient and effective to calculate many transitions which often appeared and still seem , highly unpredictable.  With some effort, many of these concepts have been expanded often successfully to the issues connected with transitions on the sub-atomic scale, including things like neutrinos, and other quite exotic things of that type. Wikipedia:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erwin_Schr%C3%B6dinger Very soon, in the U.S. and perhaps the world we are going to be going through a  transition, of a particularly unpredictable type.   Ideally this transitions will keep much of the structure intact within the U.S. and we can all at least hope for that.  We can hope, because we are not being c...
